Top 5 Niagara Falls Recreation Areas
Your family will enjoy a visit to any of Niagara Parks playgrounds and recreational areas. Along the entire length of the Niagara River you will find several parkettes that are busy with picnickers on any fine summer afternoon. There are also secluded scenic lookouts convenient to parking, benches and picnic tables, where you can take a break from your leisurely drive on the Parkway, or from hiking or biking the Niagara River Recreation Trail. Bring your own charcoal and you can cook on barbeques that are provided at the locations listed below.
For Group picnics, well-appointed picnic facilities are available at McFarland Point Park, Queenston Heights Park, Niagara Glen and Kingsbridge Park, as detailed below.
McFarland Point Park
Features one picnic pavilion that can accommodate up to 250 persons, washrooms and an adjacent baseball diamond. Location: 15927 Niagara Parkway, on the north side of McFarland House near Niagara-on-the-Lake. Parking is $2 per hour.
Queenston Heights Park
Features two picnic pavilions, each accommodating up to 350 people, washrooms, a children’s water play area (summer months only), a playground, tennis courts, a baseball diamond, a bandshell featuring free concerts on Sunday afternoons during July and August, dining at Queenston Heights Restaurant and a snack bar. Ample free parking. Location: 14184 Niagara Parkway, Queenston, Ontario near the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge.
Niagara Glen
Features one picnic pavilion that seats up to 360 people, washrooms and the Feather in the Glen shop, all set above the beautiful Great Gorge Nature Reserve. Location: 3050 Niagara Parkway, near the Whirlpool Golf Course, 8 km. north of the Falls.
Kingsbridge Park
Kingsbridge Park is a favourite with local residents and features a picnic pavilion that seats up to 320 people, as well as a children’s water play area, a play center for children and washrooms. Location: 7870 Niagara Parkway, a few minutes south of the Falls near the Village of Chippawa. Parking is Free except mid-May until Labour Day, Fridays through Sundays (plus Holiday Mondays) $10.00.
Old Fort Erie
On the grounds there is a picnic pavilion that can accommodate up to 50 people, washrooms and a children’s play area.
